President William Ruto joined residents of Baringo County for the annual Kimalel goat auction and cultural festival, where he defended his administration’s economic agenda and outlined key development projects targeting the region.
Speaking during the event, the President said Kenya’s long-term prosperity can only be achieved by empowering citizens with economic freedom, noting that grassroots economic activities such as livestock trade play a vital role in improving household incomes.
Ruto highlighted the newly launched National Infrastructure Fund, saying it is aimed at mobilising up to Sh5 trillion as outlined in the Kenya Kwanza manifesto to accelerate development of critical infrastructure across the country.
At the same time, the President took a swipe at his critics, once again accusing Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka of lacking a tangible development record during his time in government.
Earlier in the day, President Ruto commissioned the Sh1.5 billion 132-kilovolt Lessos–Kabarnet power transmission line. The project, which will be connected to the national grid, is expected to provide reliable, affordable and stable electricity to thousands of households and businesses in Baringo and neighbouring Elgeyo-Marakwet County.
The President was accompanied by elected leaders, Cabinet Secretaries and Principal Secretaries, who joined him in purchasing goats from local farmers as part of efforts to support livelihoods and promote cultural heritage in the region.
