Limuru MP John Kiragu champions constitutional safeguards for NG-CDF

Limuru Member of Parliament John Chege Kiragu has vowed to push for a constitutional amendment to entrench the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) into the Constitution.

Speaking during a bursary issuance ceremony in Limuru Constituency, where over KSh 15 million worth of bursaries were disbursed to needy students in boarding secondary schools, Kiragu defended the NG-CDF as a critical pillar for grassroots development.

“The NG-CDF has been transformational since its introduction in 2002. We must protect it from political interference and ensure that development at the constituency level remains people-driven,” Kiragu stated.

The MP criticized proposals advocating for the dissolution of the fund and its reallocation to county governments, arguing that such moves would impoverish vulnerable communities and derail progress in rural areas.

“The proponents of scrapping NG-CDF are not acting in the interest of the people. They seek to sabotage rural development and deny thousands of children the opportunity for a better future,” Kiragu emphasized.

Kiragu’s call adds to the growing debate around the future of the NG-CDF, with many legislators expressing concern that its removal could negatively impact education, infrastructure, and other social programs across constituencies.
