Kenya on high security alert ahead of CHAN Tournament, says Murkomen

The government has placed the country’s security apparatus on high alert in preparation for next month’s African Nations Championship (CHAN). It will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Monday unveiled a comprehensive security plan. Which is aimed at safeguarding fans, players, and officials as the region gears up for the prestigious continental football event.

Speaking at a press briefing in Nairobi after assessing the Country’s sports facilities ahead of CHAN tournament to be held in Nairobi August, Murkomen assured the public that all necessary security measures have been deployed. This includes crowd control strategies, enhanced surveillance systems, and emergency response mechanisms.

“With thousands of fans expected to travel across the region, we are working closely with tournament organizers to ensure safety at all venues and surrounding areas,” said Murkomen. “Entry points will be strictly managed, and safety protocols fully enforced.”

In a show of regional solidarity, Murkomen also disclosed that Kenya has initiated joint security coordination with Uganda and Tanzania. Set to secure border points and facilitate the smooth movement of teams and supporters.

“Cross-border security collaboration is essential. We’re already working with our counterparts to ensure seamless travel and protection of all stakeholders,” he said.

The CHAN tournament, which showcases local-based football talent from across Africa. Also scheduled to kick off in early August.

With security officers already deployed and infrastructure in place. Kenya has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering a safe and successful football spectacle.
