Kenya Airways (KQ) has announced the launch of direct flights from Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to London Gatwick Airport (LGW), starting 2nd July 2025. The new route marks a significant milestone for the airline, adding Gatwick as a second entry point into the United Kingdom alongside Heathrow Airport (LHR).
The new Nairobi-Gatwick flights will operate three times a week on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The overnight service out of Nairobi will cater to travelers seeking greater convenience and flexibility, complementing Kenya Airways’ existing London schedule and increasing the airline’s frequency to 10 weekly flights.
Kenya Airways Group Managing Director and CEO, Mr. Allan Kilavuka, highlighted the strategic importance of the UK market, describing the route expansion as part of KQ’s growth strategy. “The United Kingdom is essential and strategic for Kenya Airways and Kenya. It provides a gateway for trade, tourism, education, business, leisure travel, and diaspora connections. We are excited to add Gatwick Airport to our expansive network as it means that KQ guests now have more options in and out of the UK and a convenient schedule that suits their travel preferences,” said Kilavuka.
Gatwick Airport, located in West Sussex, approximately 47.5 kilometers south of Central London, offers convenient access to travelers from the Southeast and South of England. The new route will also enable passengers from Gatwick to connect seamlessly to Kenya Airways’ extensive African network via its Nairobi hub.
Kenya Airways has already opened bookings for the new flights through its website, travel agents, and online platforms. The expansion underscores KQ’s commitment to enhancing connectivity for its customers and strengthening its presence in the UK market, with Mr. Kilavuka hinting at further developments in the near future.
