The National Police Service (NPS) has raised doubts over the alleged abduction of Juja MP Hon. George Koimburi, linking the incident to an ongoing land fraud case in which he is a suspect.
Addressing the media at Jogoo House, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja provided a detailed account of the ongoing investigation. He stated that the police launched inquiries after a video circulated on social and mainstream media, purportedly showing the MP abandoned at a coffee farm in Juja.
However, when police officers from Juja visited the alleged location, they found discrepancies between the video and the actual scene. “Upon comparing the vegetation and road dimensions, it was established the two did not match,” Kanja said.
The caretaker of the farm — owned by businessman Jimmy Wanjigi — told officers he had not witnessed any such incident. The MP was later taken to Plainview Hospital in Ruiru by a vehicle registered in his name and driven by Frida Njeri, who was also the first to respond to the scene. However, the hospital declined to disclose the nature of treatment given, making it difficult to verify the MP’s alleged injuries.
A specialised team from DCI headquarters, supported by forensic experts, has since been deployed to probe the case. Five individuals have recorded statements, and more interviews are expected, including one with the MP himself, though police say his family has so far blocked access to him.
The IG further revealed that Koimburi has been under investigation in a land fraud case and that the Director of Public Prosecutions had approved charges against him.
On May 23, days before the abduction claims, the MP evaded arrest by escaping on a motorcycle with his private security and switching off his phone. His driver was arrested but later released after recording a statement. “The timing of the abduction claims raises questions,” said Kanja, urging the public to report any information related to the case via toll-free numbers 999, 911, 112 or #FichuakwaDCI (0800 722 203).
The NPS pledged to continue investigating the matter with professionalism and transparency
