Equity Group Managing Director and CEO, Dr. James Mwangi, has called on Kenyan students to embrace Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital skills as key tools for future success.
Speaking during Prize Giving Day events at Alliance High School and The Kenya High School, Dr. Mwangi emphasized the urgency of preparing for a technology-driven world.
At Alliance High School, which topped the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams, Dr. Mwangi hailed AI as a “game-changing force” capable of solving complex global challenges. “AI may not replace humans, but individuals who are skilled in AI will undoubtedly replace those who are not,” he warned. He encouraged students to pursue STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) subjects, framing them as critical to innovation and problem-solving.
Alliance High School Chief Principal, David Chomba, praised Equity Group’s impact through education programs such as Wings to Fly and the Equity Leaders Program, which supported 21 students from the school last year. “You’ve reached thousands of families and supported learners through school and into the workforce,” he said.
Dr. Mwangi’s second address was at The Kenya High School, where he spoke to over 1,500 students. He urged the girls to develop digital competencies such as coding, data analysis, and digital communication to stay competitive in the global job market. “Technology is reshaping every sector of the economy. These skills will set you apart,” he told them.
He congratulated the school for its performance in the 2024 KCSE, especially the 69 students who scored Grade A. He also reminded Wings to Fly beneficiaries that internship opportunities await those who continue to excel.
The Kenya High Chief Principal, Virginia Wahome, applauded the life-changing role played by Equity’s education programs. “Some of you have received opportunities others only dream of. Make the most of this chance,” she told her students.
Dr. Mwangi, Executive Chairman of Equity Group Foundation, urged learners to cultivate critical thinking, problem-solving, adaptability, and lifelong learning. His leadership has seen over 60,000 students benefit from Equity’s mentorship and scholarship programs, inspiring a generation of change-makers across Africa.
