Ride-hailing service Bolt announced that its top 50 drivers in Kenya grossed, on average, KSh1.28 million during the first six months of 2025, which shows that the financial opportunities in the e-hailing industry are getting bigger and bigger.
These incomes are equivalent to an average of KSh213,000 per month. These numbers are more than what most white-collar jobs or other gig economy ventures make.
Bolt explained that they were able to achieve this good performance due to increased demand for their services and to the money they spent on driver support programs, incentive schemes, and operational improvements.
It is stated by the company that the average earnings were worked out from the income made by the trips, which is the sum of the money that the driver received for the trips as well as the bonuses and the incentives given to the drivers who have the highest ratings, have accepted rides without any break and have completed a vast number of trips.
Allan, one of Bolt’s top-earning drivers, said that the platform has been very important in his life: “Driving with Bolt has allowed me to give my family a very comfortable life, from paying school fees to covering daily needs. The flexibility to work on my own schedule and being able to achieve financial independence is something I highly value.”
Bolt Kenya General Manager Dimmy Kanyankole highlighted the company's commitment to supporting the drivers, reinforcing that the report shows how the platform can be a source of wealth. He added, “Our main objective is to make real economic opportunities available to our driver partners. Being active on our platform, as this earnings report suggests, can bring excellent financial returns.”
Not only making money, but Bolt has also launched wellness programs for the drivers, who are quite flexible with the working hours and get rewarded, too. At the same time, the company is working on safety issues and says this benefits drivers and riders alike.
While there are thousands of drivers on the ground in Kenya, Bolt has become the go-to company for job creation thanks to its flexible and scalable income opportunities and it is an easy way to meet the mobility needs of people from different cities.
